Go, Hoover, go! I’m somewhat of a vacuum expert, considering how many I’ve owned. My Dyson DC25 Animal Ball Vacuum has always been my favorite and I never thought a vacuum would come close to that one. I recently reviewed a previous WindTunnel vacuum (WindTunnel 2 Pet Plus) and said, in essence, that it was no Dyson, but it was a really good vacuum. Then I pointed out the things that I felt Dyson did better.

Well. It’s as if they read my review and decided to take it as a challenge. I’m floored by how great this vacuum is. If you’re debating whether to spend the extra money on a Dyson or go for this one, I’d say the gap has been significantly closed. So let’s go over some of the improvements and pros and cons:

    CORD

This vacuum has a long, retractable cord. It’s awesome. ALL vacuums should have long, retractable cords! My Dyson and the WindTunnel 2 do not have retractable cords.

    GETTING INTO TIGHT SPACES

This vacuum has a better head than its predecessor. The older version had a taller head that made it impossible to get into smallish spaces (under cabinets and couches, for instance). This one has a lower lead-in that allows you to get it into tighter spots. Dyson still wins in this category, though– their head gets into tighter spaces still.

    DIRT CUP

Big canister. Better than Dyson’s. You don’t have to dump it as often. Love it!

    MANEUVERABILITY

The only major-ish drawback to this vacuum, in my opinion, is that it’s weighty to push around. Not terrible, but it’s not as much of a breeze as the Dyson Animal, which turns at any angle you want and is very lightweight to push.

    ATTACHMENTS

Excellent. Good placement, they stay put, and they work well.

    NOISE

An improvement over their WindTunnel 2, which had a straining sound that made me worry the motor was always about to die. This one has no such noise.

    SUCTION

Excellent. All three vacuums suck up dirt about equally.

I’m seriously impressed by the progress Hoover has made on an affordable vacuum that rivals one that costs nearly four times as much! In fact, it beats it in many categories. If they can get the maneuverability improved, they will be the clear winner in my mind.

It’s heavier than the other vacuum I own and use (Shark Navigator). But there are some things I really like about this vacuum. 1. Large canister capacity. 2. Long hose. 3. Retractable cord. No vacuum I have ever owned has this and it works decently well. So far it has very strong suction. And most new vacuums that are decent do. However, this touts “No Loss of Suction” because of the cyclone technology inside, so we will just have to wait and see as loss of suction comes with use and age. So far it’s been about 2 months that I’ve had it and it is still working great. I empty the canister about every to every other use. It can hold more but I like it empty when not in use.

Right out of the box, this is definitely great vacuum. Does an excellent job for sucking up all the pet dander and hair that get all over the place from my owning a cocker spaniel. On board attachments help pick up things in the crevices and on the ceilings. Easy to use and figure out without reading the instruction manual. I would recommend if you’re in the market for an vacuum of average weight. There are lighter ones out there but this is definitely a good one to have as your main or only vacuum.
