The Dirt Devil Breeze Bagged Upright Vacuum, UD30005B was easy to assemble, has okay suction, is lightweight @ approx 13lbs. Using the carry handle, it is easy to carry it up & down the stairs. The vacuum features a headlight, rotating brush, an allergen media bag that traps 99% of dust and pollens down to 5 microns & it automatically adjusts to your carpet height. With a 10 amp motor, it has full-size power. (my Sears vacuum has a 12 amp motor). It also has a full bag indicator window which changes to yellow or red when the bag needs to be replaced.

On-board, handy tools include a crevice tool, extension wand, upholstery brush & turbo tool. The air-powered turbo tool does not have a motor; a belt turns a rotating brush. Because it doesn’t have its own motor, the brush stops rotating if there’s any pressure on it.

My experience using the Dirt Devil Breeze, UD30005B:

-It is on the loud side.

-The 25′ cord was a little short for me.

-It has good, not great, suction & cleans to approx 1 – 1.5″ from edges.

-I don’t think it can handle a carpet with high pile. My living room carpet is medium height & the Dirt Devil seemed to handle it okay, but once in a while it struggled.

-With automatic height adjustment, the Dirt Devil adjusted quickly when I went from medium height carpet to linoleum.

-The vacuum’s rotating brush/agitator is motor & belt driven; it continues to rotate when the vacuum is on. For this reason, I suggest that you turn the vacuum off when it’s sitting upright on carpeting. I left it on, in the upright position, while I moved some items out of my path. I started to smell burning rubber & knew that the belt was struggling & that I needed to turn the vacuum off. (I had this problem on medium height carpet even though the brushroll is raised when the vacuum is in the upright position)

-It is lightweight & easy to carry up & down stairs.

-The tools fit snugly & I didn’t have any problems using them. Remember that the air-powered turbo tool’s brush will stop rotating if any pressure is applied.

-The allergen bag does a good job of trapping dust & pollens.

All-in all, the Dirt Devil Breeze UD30005B performs fine for its price & all the accessory tools you will need are onboard. It’s very lightweight & is easy to carry up & down stairs.

I received this product free for my review. The Dirt Devil Breeze came with instructions for assembly. For the most part, the instructions were clear, though it did take some careful reading and studying of pictures to be really sure I knew what I needed to do. One instruction I disagreed with was the statement that either a flathead or phillips head screwdriver could be used for assembly. Going from past experience, and because the screw wells were so narrow and deep, I would strongly suggest just using a phillips head. It is easier to maneuver in small areas, and you will know whether or not you are damaging the screw head. Another item of concern is that the side hose to the vacuum does not lock into place but needs to be firmly seated to the connection, or you will have dirt in piles on your floor. Once you know that, the vacuum is pretty easy to operate. I must say that for such a lightweight vacuum, it has a lot of suction. I was pleasantly surprised. The sound it made was not overly obnoxious as I feared, too. Some vacuums are really high pitched and loud, but this one wasn’t too bad. For a first vacuum for an apartment or dorm, it is perfect. For a lightweight vacuum for someone who does not want the heavy weight of most uprights, it is perfect. The fact that it worked so well was impressive, but I have not used over the long term, so I cannot speculate on how well it will do over the coming years, yet. I will update down the road if anything changes.

There are two type of vacuums in the world. Ones that will cost you a ton of money and worth every penny or cheaper ones that wear out after a year or so and you replace. The Dirt Devil is in the 2nd category it feels somewhat cheap but does a good not great job of sucking up items on the floor. I have taken it to my office and it is used twice a week. I have a small area and the bag is emptied about once a month. There are times I go over the same larger item two or three times but I don’t expect much based on the price. This is my third dirt devil in 4 years for the office they do the job until one day they die. I have had a dyson for 10 years at home and it does a much better job at 10xs the price. If you are looking for a nice light vacuum that will not be put to use on a daily basis this is a great deal, if you keep your area somewhat clean and the vacuum does not have to work too hard this is a great deal. If you think this is the last vacuum you will ever own you are probably wrong.
