Must-Have if Your Dyson Didn’t Come With One, May 18, 2011

I bought my Dyson DC23 canister (non-Animal version) from Costco, and while it works great on carpet, the included turbine head seemed a bit too clunky for hard floor use, especially in the tight confines of a bathroom.

I just got the Articulating Hard Floor Tool accessory in the mail and it works great. The brushes help clean out dirt from the grout lines on tile floors, and because it pivots in so many ways I can get into places the turbine head (and the non-articulating version of the Hard Floor Tool) can’t dream of reaching, such as beside the fridge or behind the toilet.

It also comes with an adapter that I presume is for older Dyson models.

This is the attachment that allows me to get into the tight spaces between and under furniture, along the edges of area rugs, behind the piano (maybe for the first time in 20 years!), and lots of other corners that exist in an old house. It has a very low, and a very narrow profile. True, it does flip over on itself once in a while when I’m moving it from one job to another, requiring a little twisting to get it into position, but it allows me to use a long handle and stand up to do jobs that formerly required me to get onto the floor and reach into the tight spaces.

    Downside? Too expensive.

I can’t believe I have had my Dyson animal vac for so many years and never had this tool. It works perfectly on hardwood and tile floors. I kept trying to find another vacuum that I could use on the hardwoods because the bare floor setting on the Dyson just doesn’t cut it. Nothing seemed to have the same power as the Dyson, though. I am so glad I now have an effective floor tool that I can use with my Dyson.

It’s a basic floor tool. The one that my Dyson came with was a strange tool that felt weird to push(for me at least), didn’t work that well, and even stranger to figure out (so when you hit the switch it gets flatter and that works better how?)

The brush bristles work well. I use it on my tile floor to pick up my cat litter easily and it works pretty well with my (low) carpet, though the main unit does a little better job. I’ve had it for just over half a year and aside from getting a little loose where it connects to the hose (with the amount of times I’ve bashed the thing, it’s no surprise), I think it has held up well. I will definitely look for another like this, if this one should break or fail.

This is a great attachment for cleaning if you have pets or hard floors. We use it to clean cat hair off sofas and just around on a regular hard floor around the edges.

Works great and doesn’t scratch the floor.

We purchased the multi-attachment pack for the Dyson too, but use this separate purchase the most!
