I’ve used this vacuum for about 6 weeks now and can honestly say it has impressed me so far. I bought this vacuum because my other vacuums are in for repair and have been for several months due to parts availability. Do NOT purchase Electrolux Oxygen canister or Electrolux Intensity uprights – if something goes wrong you are SOL if repair parts are needed. My repair shop suggested the Hoover Platinum even though they sell many brands including Dyson. They warned me against the Dyson as all the internal parts are plastic and they have them in for repair all the time. We have a heavy handed cleaning person that gives the floor cleaners a good work out, she was very pleased to see the new Hoover upright in place of the tempermental Electrolux models.
In the past I’ve owned Kenmore canister and an Oreck upright. The Kenmore was pretty good, but we gave it away when we “upgraded” to the Electrolux Oxygen. I purchased the Oreck at a trade show and was an industrial model. I’ve got to say I was not too impressed with the power and duribility. The Hoover is similiar to the Oreck in design and weight, but I think Hoover has improved the overall performance. I will update this review if this unit breaks bad, but it is clearly the best vacuum I’ve owned to date.

Let me start with some background (sorry). We were married 26 years ago, and my aunt bought us a Hoover as a shower gift. Of course it did not have all kinds of bells and whistles, but it lasted us about 20 years. It even continued to pick us reasonably well, but I wanted something that didn’t use paper bags, didn’t have attachments that needed to be connected at the bottom, was lighter, etc. In short, I wanted the bells and whistles. We went through a Dirt Devil and a Eureka in five years time. When the second of those died in a flood, I did a lot of research and decided to go back to Hoover. After having this machine for 7 months now, I can see it will be as much of a workhorse as my original Hoover. It is quiet, and it bends deep to get under tables and even the edge of the sofa and chairs. It has no on-board attachments, and now that works just great for me. I thought the canister would be somewhat of a pain, but it allows me to vacuum — and vacuum well — without having to get out the bigger vacuum. I use it for dust balls in the corner and the dog hair that inevitably builds up as well as quick sweeps along the cabinet edges on the kitchen floor. As mentioned, we have a dog, and both vacuums pick up dog hair quite well. I even think it picks up so deeply that I do not need to do a full vacuum as often. It is self-propelled (I am sure most vacuums are today anyway), but it sure makes cleaning easier. The bags are expensive, since they are cloth Hepa bags, but, again, it’s been 7 months of regular use and we just now bought a replacement bag. I believe this is so much cleaner than a bagless vacuum. All in all, I have found no negatives with this vacuum and high recommend it (as I knock on wood!). It’s a great value, too!
