The best Vaccum Cleaner ever made!!!, November 4, 2009

I can tell you without a doubt that this is, by far, the best vacuum I have ever used, and I have tried them all. I was a user of the dyson animal and hated it because I hate not having a bag. The dust bin gets disgusting and difficult to clean, so I moved to an Oreck. I loved the Oreck so lightweight and did a decent a job.

Now my friend went to charity auction, and came home with the Miele S7, how weird. But I gave this whirl and omg I was in love. This thing is whisper quiet, you can actually vacuum while a baby is sleeping. The Vacuum Bag holds everything, not a spec of dust escapes, which is perfect because I’m dust sensitive. Finally it really picks up everything, the suction is superb. Oh yea, it’s extremely maneuverable as well.

It is however on the tad heavy side, but only because the build quality is so good. Despite this it is easy to vacuum my entire house without getting tired.

So, unless you need a lightweight vacuum, this is the one to buy! you will very satisfied. I ended up buying one the next day after trying it.

I’ve had the Jazz for only a week now, but in that time it has exceeded my expectations.

I’ve owned Eureka, Panasonic, Dirt Devil, and Dyson. They died within 3-5 years, or were just ineffective (Dirt Devil was both). Compared to the Miele, these other vacuums sound as loud as jet engines. I find the Dyson DC-14 particularly loud and harsh. The Miele is really quiet (for a vacuum), and the noise that it does make isn’t unpleasant; e.g., it’s not too high pitched or whiny.

Before using the Miele for the first time, I vacuumed the house with my Eureka SmartVac Boss. I know, the Eureka is a non-starter in the world of boutique vacuums. However, I always thought the Eureka did an OK job of keeping the carpet clean on a day to day basis. As you might predict, the Miele picked up a significant amount of dirt and hair that the Eureka had apparently been missing. Looking in the Miele bag, you might guess that the carpet it just cleaned hadn’t been vacuumed in 6 months. Also, the carpet felt softer after using the Miele. The stairs have Berber on them, and the Miele was able to lift the loop-pile back up like no other vacuum has been able to. It wasn’t like the Berber was new again (it’s well worn and crushed down), but the Miele brush brought more life back into these worn stairs than any other vacuum I’ve tried.

The maneuverability of the S7 series Miele is fantastic. The swivel neck is not a gimmick; it really works. It’s so easy to get the unit around corners, and if you just want straight lines that’s no problem either. The Miele’s ability to lay flat is also convenient. Often, however, I’ve found I can’t get too far under something because the Miele is still too tall.

I haven’t used any of the attachments yet, but the hose is sufficiently long for me. A previous commenter noted how she couldn’t get up a full flight of stairs with just the hose. I don’t use the hose that way, so I can’t comment specifically to that point. I just pick the vacuum up and use the main brush on the stairs. In doing this, I don’t find the Miele too heavy, but I haven’t quite figured out how to do this and hold it comfortably. When I do the stairs, I go down backwards. When I did this with previous vacuums, I would always feel a bit of the dirt flying back and hitting my shins. This doesn’t happen with the Miele. The Miele, apparently, seals the vacuuming area well enough so that everything gets sucked up into the bag. This is great when doing hard floors too, and it’s a breeze to switch the brush motor on and off (just flip a switch).

As with one reviewer, I experienced a clicking noise. For me, that was because the vacuum sucked up a piece of hard plastic that got stuck near the roller. I just had to remove it. No big deal.

The brush sensor is a nice feature. This will stop the brush when it senses that something has gotten tangled up. I accidentally sucked up the corner of a dress, but the roller automatically stopped and the dress was not damaged at all. On the flip side, I also ran over the cord and stripped it pretty far down in less than 2 seconds. This demonstrates both how powerful the brush is and how dumb I am. I have run over vacuum electrical cords my entire life, but I’ve never had one stripped by the vacuum brush this quickly or completely (most vacuums I’ve had won’t strip the cord at all, especially not within 2 seconds as the Miele did). That’s a powerful brush.

In short, this is a wonderful vacuum. It does a better job than any other vacuum I’ve owned. I could buy several $300 vacuums over the next 10-15 years, or I could just buy one Miele (I got mine for $599 locally) that will (hopefully) last 20 years, and end up saving money and having cleaner carpets in the process. So, I bought the Miele, and I love it.

The Miele Jazz is Wonderful!!!, January 7, 2011

This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow

I hesitate in only leaving 4 stars, rather than 5. I will start with the cons, then go to the many pro’s. I had read in other reviews that the cord placement should be below the hose placement. I thought the reviewer was being “fussy”. But after using the vacuum for several hours, I must agree. The cord gets in the way of easily removing the hose wand, and I remove mine for corners every few minutes of using the vacuum. I’m sure it had to be this way, as the machine is so well thought out, but placement could be better. Second con, my Dyson allows me to keep one attachment stuck on the hose when I put the hose back in place. My new Miele needs the attachment removed to go back to vacuum mode. I use an attachment very often, so kind of a pain to keep putting an attachment back on. NOW, for all the good. This vacuum is amazing. So quiet, and quality. When I start the vacuum it sounds like a muted quality hum of a fine car. The suction is unmatched, and I’ve had all the best vacuums in the past. I was concerned about going back to a vacuum that requires bags. With many animals, I thought the bag would fill very quickly. Not true, I’m just finishing the first bag after hours of use. I empty the Dyson cup every few minutes, so I thought the bag would only last a few days. It just all compacts into the bag and I’m actually glad not to be dumping the Dyson cup all the time. So now I’m not concerned about spending a fortune in bags, as I’d figured I would. A tad on the heavy side, but that’s because of the quality construction. I love that it doesn’t tip over when I remove the wand and clean the stairs and corners. The rubber wheels make me feel better about rolling it on my wood flooring upstairs. I have stone and wood flooring, and this is the safest cleaner I’ve ever had in preventing scratching them during cleaning. The attachments that came with the Miele are wonderful. I’ll order more later, but for now I’m good with the included pieces. I wasn’t really in the market for a new vacuum just yet, but I’m so glad my inner shopper took over and made me purchase the Miele. I justified it because of the hepa filter and reviewers going on about the healthier choice of a filtered bag system. I look forward to many happy years of use from “buttercup”, that’s what I’ve named her since she’s a beautiful soft yellow color. Highly Recommended

    Hi,

i did a lot of research and we first settled for a Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum. We took the dyson back the the same day. I thought dyson had really reinvented the vacuum but its more the Science fiction interpretation of a vaccum. everything is flimsy and the brush wont go where its supposed to go as it is too high for underneath sofas and cupboards. the dyson is nothing wifes can actually work with. maybe someone who buys at thinkgeek likes that, my wife didnt.

we then settled for the miele ariel and my wife loves it. she said its like vacuuming in a different league. the sucktion power is just awesome…

    cheers

I have hardwood floors and some rugs. This things works whisper quiet when I need it to. Such as when kids or wife are sleeping. Any other vacuum would wake up the baby. I have had the vacuum almost a year. I have no problems with it. Changing the bag is easy.

Cord rewind is great, it rolls on floor nicely. It is light. So all good things about the vacuum. Only complaint is the accessory storage compartment door will flip open some times. I think the lock on it is kind of loose. The door serves no functional purpose it is just an observation.

I mentioned that I have hardwood floors with rug. So with rug it needs to be on high and it will do a good job of picking up everything.

But if you have carpets you need a carpet vacuum, not this one.
