Still my favorite for hard floors,
I was pleased to find that the Orecks are as effective and lightweight as ever, and the new version is definitely better looking. We have a rustic hardwood floor with big, deep gaps that fill with dirt and dust, and the Oreck sucks them clean very quickly. It’s also excellent on carpet, smooth terrazzo, and finished concrete. It’s great right up to the edge if walls, it flattens really low to go under beds and furniture (unlike the Dyson), and its lights lead you quickly to the dust bunnies under your bed or dresser.
Of course, unlike the Dyson, you will have to buy bags, but these days you can even get Oreck bags at Target or Amazon (back int he old days, you could only buy them from Oreck, a PITA), and swapping a bag is much cleaner and more pleasant than emptying the bin (tradeoffs, again). But this is the vacuum I choose for almost everything, even getting up those insidious shards that scatter with a broken glass.
If rely heavily on the hose (which, frankly, I do for Kansas spiders and cobwebs), this won’t do everything you need, but if you’re in a newer home with any kind if flooring, and especially if you have pets and multiple levels (it is light!), this is a marvelous, effective, long-lasting vacuum.

I love my Oreck,
The Oreck Classic Heritage looks pretty much exactly like my much older model, except for the color. It’s a basic, upright, no-extras vacuum. It’s lightweight so it’s easy to move from room to room, and tall so it’s comfortable to push around. And it works beautifully.
I have a large area rug that I love that has a dark background which unfortunately acts as a fur magnet. We have lots of pets, so I spend lots of time vacuuming this particular rug – it’s how I judge the capabilities of a vacuum. My old Oreck (and my Hoover Wind Tunnel) make it look clean. This Oreck Classic Heritage makes it look NEW.
I’m really happy to have a new Oreck in my house. My experience with the company is that they make great, long-lasting products and are responsive when it comes to repairs, extra bags, etc. Absolutely recommended.
