Good for the price point and if you insist on a canister,
I’ve been shopping around now for over a week on vacuums and this is the third one that’s arrived on my doorstep so far after the Electrolux Nimble and the Hoover MultiCyclonic Canister. I wanted to buy the Burgundy version of this vacuum due to the rave reviews and the positive Consumer Reports results, but it was sold out and I was relieved to find the Orchid version in stock–which is the exact same vacuum in a prettier color.
So, I’m specifically looking for a vacuum that’s going to do great on my low-pile carpeted stairs, my area rugs, and my upstairs wall to wall, high-pile carpeting. I was willing to spend up to $350 on a vacuum, but of course, would rather spend the least amount available so long as it would still do a very good job at what I needed it to do. The Panasonic came close, but no cigar. Honestly, though, if my budget only allowed for $150, then this would be the way to go.
Pros:
-Unlike the other reviewer, I actually got the orchid colored vacuum. And I chose this one over the more popular burgundy one b/c Amazon itself wasn’t shipping the highly rated burgundy model at the moment, but I figured they were pretty much the same. I thought I wouldn’t like the way it looks, but it’s actually kinda cute.
-Lightweight – if you need a vacuum that glides effortlessly around, this is it. The canister followed around pretty easily. Though it takes corners and turns a little less well than the swivel wheels on the Miele canisters, you’re also not paying the price of the Mieles or the Dysons.
-The brush head felt as though it were self-propelling. I was surprised at this b/c the brush head itself was incredibly light anyways. But it’s always nice to have the chore of vacuuming made a little bit easier.
-Storage: all the small attachments come stored inside the canister.
-Suction: The suction on the brush head was EXCELLENT. I thought it did a pretty decent job of vacuuming the floors and carpets. There was a little kickback when vacuuming the hardwood floor and tile, but this vacuum is probably one of the best vacs for all-around floor performance, especially at this price point.
-PRICE: For this quality, I think you’d normally be expecting to pay at least fifty dollars more, but this is actually a really good vacuum for not too much money.
Cons:
-Bags (Well, pro or con). I’m a big fan of bagless vacuums. I don’t mind the little dust cloud that sometimes come when emptying the dustbin. But I derive a great deal of satisfaction from seeing the dirt get sucked up into the bin. I know that a lot of people feel the opposite. I think this is just personal taste.
-Manual adjustment: You have to manually switch the button to go from hardwood floors, to low pile, to high pile. Sort of expected for the price, but having experience the automatic height adjustment of other vacuums, I can’t say that I wouldn’t miss it.
-Ergonomic – while the vacuum is pretty light and easy to carry up and down the stairs, I felt that the handle was not ergonomic or user friendly. The Panasonic is the successor to a Kenmore canister that I grew up with, but the difference was that the top of the Kenmore had a little looped handle. The Panasonic does not. I felt that wrapping my hand around the top of the tube and pushing it along the floors was a bit awkward. A little plastic handle would have been greatly appreciated.
-Cord length was much better than on the Hoover canister that I tried out (and they both had cord rewinds, which is awesome) but I felt that it would have been nice if it were even longer.
-Suction when using the smaller attachments – I found it odd that even though the suction was perfectly good when I was using it to vacuum carpets, the suction just didn’t feel as strong when I pulled off the rotating brush and put on two other brushes the come with the vacuum (I didn’t try the crevice tool). This is where I thought the Hoover MultiCyclonic…
