If you bought the corresponding Dirt Devil hand-held and you have pet hair, you will be changing these filters sooner than the 6 month recommendation. That is not a knock on the product, just the reality of pet hair. So, good to have a few on hand.
Also, if you have ever bought a product that had replaceable parts, after awhile you must go to buy those parts. Often you find that the model you own has been replaced and the replacement parts are no longer available or the new item is juuuuust a little different from the old one. So, either throw the old one away and buy a new one or (in this case) dig the dirt out of the old filter and keep using it. It does make sense to have a few extra filters on hand.
