Bought this to replace a hoover bagless upright. I have never owned a canister vac before but this was a great price and I specifically wanted to switch back to a bagged unit after having 2 bagless ones kick out on me. I did keep up the proper maintenance on them, yet over time they fade in performance. Also I don’t find dumping a dirt cup to prevail in convenience over changing a bag. My home is multi-pet and I have children and I love this vac and use it pretty much every day. It worked amazingly well first time out of the box I was immediately impressed but I waited some time to keep using it before writing this review. I would specifically like to point out how powerful this little unit is, you can adjust the suction and I have never had to put it over a three. Combined with the fact that it’s light enough to carry around the house with you (even though I don’t have very strong hands and in fact have arthritis) and it gets into every nook and cranny of your home. The profile of the standard vac head easily turns to get in tight spaces and it’s low so it goes under furniture such as my bureau. Changing attachments is a breeze and with a flip of a lever you can go from cleaning carpet to bare floor… very nice for my eat in kitchen where I have both rug and flooring in the same room. I can change the suction to clean small area rugs as well without eating them up! I hope this will be a long-lasting vac compared to the last two I have had but if it were to kick out early, at this point I would pick the same one to replace it with. Bags have great capacity as well. I would recommend this to anyone!

Nearly 9 months later… I am still using my vac and still love it!

PLEASE NOTE: The maintenance kit you see paired with the vac advertised as “Buy together” is ****NOT**** the right bag for this vac. So far I don’t know of anyplace to get replacement bags other than the bissell website. Be very careful buying replacement bags for the 22Q3 and don’t just go by the model name Zing or you probably will wind up with the wrong bags.

UPDATE 1/1/12 Finally had to order more bags went with bissell.com for that and got the filters from vacsite.com (a bit expensive but you get the right stuff!) The performance of the vac itself is worth jumping through hoops or paying a little more to keep it running.

I spent days looking for a vacuum cleaner, reading as many reviews as I could about them on Amazon and other websites. It seemed that every one within my budget (under $200) had some negative reviews that made me think twice about buying them. For example, I considered for a while getting one of the inexpensive Eureka ones but after studying some of the negative reviews some people said it was very flimsy. We have quite a large house with laminate flooring downstairs and carpet upstairs. I needed something that could vacuum both surfaces well and not fall apart after 5 minutes. I considered spending more money, but as my husband and I have found with other purchases, the rule tends to be that if you spend a lot OR very little money, you tend to be happy with your product either way but going for some middle of the range tends to result in disappointment – spending that little extra (say $150-$250) on a vacuum cleaner would mean I’d have high hopes for it and would feel like I’d wasted good money if it didn’t match up to my expectations.

So, I read the (then) 5 reviews of the Bissell Zing – people said it was good on both hard wood floor and carpet (which many of the other vacuum cleaners couldn’t claim). I thought for $50 I would not be too heart broken if it wasn’t THE best vacuum cleaner ever – and yet it wasn’t described as flimsy and cheap like the Eureka so I thought it might hold up slightly longer.

    So…for the review, finally…
On taking it out of the box and examining it and the parts I was pleased that it didn’t feel cheap. The hose in particular was one of the things people complained about with the Eureka – the hose on the Bissell is of good quality and not likely to puncture easily.
    It also looks nice.
The only thing lacking is the attachments – while there are two, they aren’t the most useful (although I have used them and they do work). I would have just been even more pleased if it had come with a bigger brush nozzle for dusting/vacuuming.

Turning the machine on for the first time I was impressed by the suction – being clean and empty it was of course at it’s strongest – and that compared very well with other more expensive vacuums I’ve used.
I found that it did indeed vacuum my laminate floor well – some larger objects may get caught in the bristles and take a couple of times going over to be picked up but the great thing about canister vacuums is that doing this uses so little effort since you don’t have to move the whole machine.

The cord seems like a decent length. I didn’t have to change sockets too many times to do our whole downstairs.

On the carpet however I found it very difficult to push forward. I had changed the setting on the head for carpets so the bristles were not out and I turned down the suction, however it seemed to get stuck on the carpet when I tried to push forward. Pulling back was fine so I ended up having to tilt the head on the way forward (so it wasn’t really able to pick anything up) and vacuum on the drag backwards. I was very disappointed with this since people had said it was good on both hard wood and carpet.

However, after having used the vacuum a few times it seems to have got better on the carpet. Even after changing the bag it has improved on the carpet and I no longer get the problem.

So the Bissell Zing isn’t a bad vacuum for the money. Of course you can probably get better vacuums but you will have to pay a lot more money to see a big difference. I’m happy with the vacuum (a lot more now that it does seem to manage well with carpet) and I think this has a lot to do with the fact that for $50 I didn’t invest a great deal of hope in it so it wasn’t hard for it to impress me. I suppose if you’re looking for a high quality vacuum you need to consider spending a lot more money (not just a little bit more).

Note: I only vacuum maybe once a week at the very most so bare that in mind!

Finally, after having changed the bag, I noticed that it now produces a horrid smell when I vacuum. It smells kind of like vomit. I suppose it could be the glue used in the bag? I have not vacuumed up anything that would cause that smell and I’ve changed the bag twice and it still smells. I’ve even tried vacuuming up some bicarbonate of soda but it hasn’t gone away. I’m not too bothered by this since the smell goes away after vacuuming.

I bought this Bissell Zing (black color). This Zing is only $49.99 free shipping from Amazon. I got it today and love it for its quality and powerful suction. This model is similar to Bissell older model 6800-1, which I owned and used every other day for almost 10 years. Its motor finally died. Zing is better than 6800-1 because suction is adjustable. I have wooden floor so lowest setting is enough to do the job. When i turn it all the way up, the 11″ nozzle suck onto the floor very strongly, excellent for carpet, I think. I do not have carpet in my house. I recommend Zing Black highly.
