Bob, the third member of the house, October 11, 2014

My wife recently bought a Bobsweep. It seems to working pretty good except doesn’t go over a certain size threshold. And you pretty much have to move wires and thigs out of its way. If you are one to throw things on the floor, this may not be for you unless you really want to clean up your act and pick things up. It does clean well, gets under the bed and really dusts it out. That’s worth a lot to us. The only problem I have found that is disturbing to me is that ever since my wife got BOB, she is talking to it like it is human. I can hear her saying in the next room..’come on Bob’, ‘Good job Bob’, …’Bob just a minute, let me move that wire’ etc. On and on it goes. Its like a 3rd person moved into our house. To further complicate the issue, the company sent us a birth announcement on Bob, something like Bob Ourlastname, born October 4, 2014, 2 3/4 inches tall. Or something like that. Bob is born to us. Now I am wondering if the company offers psychological evaluations for people who own Bob and talk to him like my wife is doing now. I just have to leave the house sometimes.

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
We bought Bob last May for my birthday. I didn’t have the greatest first impression with Bob, but the great customer service made up for it. Upon receiving Bob we noticed that the lights on the charging station don’t come on. We tried everything and still nothing. Contacting their CS they said they would send us a new one and that we could charge him by directly plugging him in for the time-being. A bit disheartened, we asked for return option, and they reassured us that we could return if we choose to–very courteous and prompt service I should add, which reassured us to a certain extent. We decided to give it a shot anyway and if anything return Bob after receiving the charging station…

We charged Bob the same day and let him run at night… we were stunned by the results. It did cover the entire apartment, despite going multiple times in some areas, and worked over 90 minutes before it started looking for its charging station. Well, there was no charging station for poor bob (!) and we just had to plug him in directly.

THE NEXT DAY, in less than 24 hours since we had contacted the customer service, a package arrived with the charging station and a lovely note from Bobsweep! What a pleasant surprise!

Our honeymoon with Bob lasted about 10 months, until recently when we found Bob running but not picking up hair nearly as much as it used to. We contacted the support team again, talked to Chelsea, she gave us, very patiently and professionally, some guidelines to troubleshoot the issue. After a few minutes of diagnosis, we determined that it is not a “user error” and something inside Bob is indeed broken. So we had to send him in for a repair. Again, I was a bit concerned that such an expensive piece of machinery broke in less than a year… Well, it’s hard to find something that has it all I guess.. Counting the shipping back and forth, it took about 3 weeks to get our dear Bob back (it felt forever, and the floors would remind us of his absence, each day a bit more emphatically).

Upon Bob’s return we discovered a new brush in the package and an invoice for it with the costs waived by Bobsweep! Not just the repair parts, for which our warranty was still valid, but they added a complimentary brush too! What a treat! Ours had started to wear off and it definitely made up for the frustration and the wait to receive a functioning Bob that looked almost as good as new with his new brush on! Bob went back to work and I wrote a thank you email to Chelsea who then suggested I share my opinion of Bobsweep online.

Well I had no choice but to give it a 5-star. Granted the issues we had with Bob would deduct a star or two from its overall rating, the AMAZING customer service that I have been provided so far has sealed my lips about the flaws. I just love companies that take care of the customer even when you are not an immediate potential for profit anymore.

In terms of performance here is what I have to say about Bob:
It does a fantastic job with cat hair and most other stuff. The side brush sometimes shoots dust bunnies to the corners… usually Bob catches them at a later pass, but there are times that it doesn’t.. Not a major issue there.
It covers our entire apartment in a run, we have a two bedroom, 75 square meter condo. It has no problems transitioning between our hardwood and carpet, but the small transition (2 centimeters) of the bathroom door sometimes gets Bob stalled… it makes its way halfway through the transition and then his wheels spin in the air for a while before it gives up and changes directions. Sometimes it goes through successfully at a different angle again, sometime it forgets about it completely. If I am around I give it a push but there have been a few instances where we came back home and found Bob dead on that transition. I am not an engineer, but it seems to me Bob’s wheels are too small for its body, especially considering the weight that accumulates in its back, where the dustbin is. That bin can take a lot of junk (literally) and no wonder it makes it heavy and hard for the wheels to push the poor thing forward. They seem to have missed this or had no solution for it. I have seen Roomba at work in a couple of friends’ houses, that thing has bigger wheels than Bobsweep, with a tiny dustbin compared to Bobsweep and a smaller body too!

Overall I’d give Bobsweep’s cleaning performance a 4 or 4.5 and its durability a 3 or 3.5. I give the customer service a solid 5. This combination makes me quite happy with my purchase and experience and I therefore consider myself a huge Bobsweep fan!
