The DC39 Multi Floor canister vacuum is engineered with Dyson cyclones that capture more dirt than any other. Featuring Dyson’s Radial Root Cyclone™ technology, reconfigured air channels reduce turbulence and preserve air pressure, so the inner cyclones can extract more microscopic particles and expel cleaner air. Suitable for all floor types, the DC39’s Triggerhead tool is the only turbine head controlled at the handle, so there is no bending down to adjust. A fingertip control switches the brush bar off for delicate rugs and hard floors and switches on for high pick-up on carpets. It also features a detachable handle, which allows you to fit tools directly to the end of the hose, for cleaning in confined places. The included combination tool and stair tool are designed for dusting and removing dirt from corners and vertical edges of stairs. The DC39 is also the only canister vacuum with a central steering mechanism. Combined with Dyson Ball™ technology, the DC39 turns on a

The Messiah of Vacuums, April 24, 2012

This is the best vacuum ever. I have been a proud dyson owner for the past 8 years, my first was a purple DC07 Animal and that vacuum has been a trooper and still works just as good as when I bought it. So why a new vacuum? This one has all the bells and whistles that turn a staunch feminist into Donna Reed. It is that much fun to vacuum.

Out of the box, it takes five seconds to snap everything together and you are ready to go. I have no idea what the other reviewer is complaining about regarding the plastic but this is high quality all around. The plastic is smooth and has a matte finish (no scratches!) and is NOT BRITTLE so it won’t snap. And nothing on my old dyson ever broke and that one was all plastic too.

Once I got going, I never had to stop. I started on the sea grass hallway rug, moved to the wood floor, moved back to the low pile rug in the living room and then into the kitchen. The vacuum is light weight, very easy to maneuver and no switching attachments. And is sucked everything up with no problems. Onion skins under the pantry shelf, sticky rice from my three year old’s dinner, twigs and leaves from my husband’s boots, sand from the driveway. All gone in seconds.

Then I carried it upstairs (and I didn’t even notice, it was soooo light!) I vacuumed my bedroom which is all medium pile carpet. WOW did it get tons of stuff up. I hadn’t vacuumed in two weeks and it got all sorts of gunk out of the carpet. And I could get the wand all the way under the dressers, changing table, crib and bed. WOW. The old dyson upright can’t do that.

Then I quickly swapped the turbine head for the crevasse attachment (all neatly stored on the handle) and sucked the cobwebs off the fan and corners of the ceiling. And the wand is light and extends easily.

This vacuum rocks and is worth every penny. The ball design is great and it just follows you around the room.

    Sucks – in a good way, April 19, 2012

After finally retiring my beloved Hoover Windtunnel canister vacuum – I decided to replace it with this Dyson.
Assembly was easy – I gave up with the instructions (pictures only – but not very informative) and had it up and running in about 5 minutes. I vacuumed an area rug with my Hoover first (it still works – but is now held together by duct tape and rubber bands in several areas). After going over it a second time with the Dyson – I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of dust it pulled out of the carpet. There was a couple of pieces of lint (looked like a down feather) that I had to go over several times in order to vacuum it up – but otherwise it did a good job. Going off the area rug onto the hardwood floor was easy – you just push a button in the handle to turn off the brush so the floor doesn’t get scratched. The canister is quite light and easy to pull around – and emptying it is a breeze. I would suggest emptying it into a large (outside) garbage can – otherwise dust may fly everywhere.
My only complaint is that because it’s made of plastic – some of the parts seem rather flimsy. With my old hoover – plastic parts would break off here and there – to the point that it’s almost unusable. I fear the Dyson may suffer the same fate. The flimsiest bit seems to be the latch on the bottom of the dirt cup – I guess time will tell. Thankfully – there is a 5 year warranty. I will update this review if needed.

    PROS: Cleans carpets/hardwood floors well
    Easy to empty
    Light and easy to maneuver

CONS: Expensive for a mostly plastic vacuum
Some of the plastic pieces seem flimsy.
    Directions are useless
The head/wand apparently “clips” to the ball for storage – ehhhh – good luck with that.

    ***UPDATE***

After using this vacuum for over a month – I just wanted to update my review with a couple of observations.

POSITIVES: So maneuverable – and the slim head profile gets under some of my furniture that my old vacuum was unable to.

NEGATIVES: Dog hair tends to cling to the outside of the extendable wand due to static electricity.

Does not pick up all the dog hair on the carpet – I still see some embedded in the carpet after vacuuming. The problem seems to be with the carpet brush – it does not make contact with my short napped carpet. My old hoover did a much better job with it’s powered, automatic height adjustable carpet brush. This is a little disappointing – seeing as it is about 4 times the price of my old hoover.

    I’m in love… with a vacuum…, May 24, 2012

A few years ago, we moved into a brand new house that has ceramic tile through the entire house except for the bedrooms. I thought that I would really love having all that tile. It’s so pretty and you don’t have to worry about stains, etc. Not long after moving in, I discovered how much I hate to sweep and no matter how often you do it, the floor is never clean for long. We live in the sticks and there is tons of dirt and grass that is constantly being brought in. And with my husband dragging half the dirt in from his garden regularly, there’s no way to keep up. At least the tile doesn’t show the dirt. I’ve attempted various methods of dealing with the flooring in the house. Tons of brooms, stick vacuums, hard floor vacuums, and couple of upright vacuums that would just slingshot the dirt around. I really wanted something that would work well on both the bare floors as well as carpet. Plus, our carpet is a frieze so it’s got long cut loops, which posed another challenge.

3 years ago, I wound up settling on a kenmore canister vacuum that was comparable in price to a dyson upright that I was considering. The canister is supposed to be one of the best vacuums to use on bare floors and with all the accessories, I just couldn’t pass it up. And I was pretty happy it until last fall. The bags were getting harder to find, the suction just wasn’t quite up to snuff despite my constant upkeep, and the rubber seal around the front of the head kept popping off and refused to stay put. I just dreaded having to explain to my husband why I was going to need yet another vacuum, especially since the one we bought after lots of research cost $400. I just refused to even entertain the thought for a while and continued to make do through the spring.

About 2 months ago while my husband was once again trying to re-glue the very annoying rubber seal back on the vacuum head, we saw the commercial for the dc39. I don’t usually buy into the hype of commercials, but the idea of how the ball on the dc 39 follows you without tipping over or is able to navigate around furniture easily was a hugely intriguing prospect. Our living room furniture is pretty tight, and while it’s easy to slide it around on the tile to vacuum, it would be much nicer not to have to reassemble my living room every time I went to vacuum. My husband said, “I think we’ll have to go and check that one out.” He and I both like to get our hands on major purchases before just ordering online. We went to a local store, and we played around with it. I tried hard to knock the canister over pulling it around, but it wasn’t having any problems. We decided to go home and order one.

We shopped around online, and ordered it from somewhere else for the same price, but it had a lot of the “extra” attachments included that aren’t included in the one from amazon. It took longer to pull the parts out of the well packed box than it did to actually assemble the vacuum and get going. The motorized head is a lot smaller than my old canister, but it really does get into places that I wasn’t able to before. I can now vacuum under all my kitchen cabinets with ease. The vacuum lays down and gets under my bed which is very low to the ground and under the couch and love seat as well. With a click of a button, I can switch from bare floors to carpet and the cord length is very generous. I have managed to knock the ball over, but I was really yanking it around. I’m so used to have to tug my old canister around, and it’s a habit. As much as I vacuum, I should be broken of that in short order.

I highly recommend the soft dusting brush attachment. I have used that like crazy since my vacuum came with it. It works great on all the electronics and fits wonderfully behind the tv getting the dust off the back. It took seconds to dust all the end tables, coffee table, and entertainment center. Best part is I didn’t start sneezing.

I didn’t vacuum my bedroom for a week, because I was waiting to try my new vacuum on it, and couldn’t believe all the dirt and hair it pulled up. We only sleep in the bedroom, so we aren’t in there very often. I could have made myself a wig with all the hair I shed. I am embarrassed to say, that obviously my old vacuum was in a by far worse state than I had thought. When I vacuumed last week it was after I had just put a new bag in and everything.

I tried all my attachments and had no problems taking care of the ceiling fans and dusting the a/c return vents. I was able to suck all the crud hiding in the tight crevices of my daughter’s high chair that I’ve been trying to get out for quite a while.

Emptying the canister is easy, and is just a click of a button. Be sure to lower it into the trash can though so you don’t have a dust cloud. I empty it into a freshly emptied trash can. It is recommended that you wash your filter once a month for optimal use. Be…
