    Too Expensive, May 22, 2019

I have never written a review, but I feel it is necessary to alert consumers who are looking to purchase a robot vacuum. I have four robot vacuums (tri-level house and a guest house). I have three medium-large dogs and three cats (two are long hair). I live in the mountains where dirt is tracked in constantly. I rely on my robot vacuums to help me from going insane!

I wanted to put a robot vacuum out in my guest house and my lower level, so I took my one workhorse Shark (one year old) and put it in the guest house. That left me with two robot vacuums to purchase. One purchase was this Robot Roomba i7 (7150) Robot Vacuum Bundle. The other vacuum was not a Roomba. Both vacuums were brand new and the latest models. I had done plenty of research, and, being a devout Shark customer, I felt it was time to branch out. I spent the $799 on this vacuum. Unfortunately, it was not a good decision. I regret it, and it will be the last Roomba I ever purchase. Another unfortunate decision by me was to give this every chance possible. I missed the return deadline by 48 hours.

PRO: I like the smart set up of the vacuum, how it learns the rooms it cleans and stays in a routine. I am able to set up a morning schedule based on where the vacuum will be. Now, with that being said, it doesn’t always stick to its routine, but it seems to be 90% accurate. For $799, I would expect 100% precision and accuracy. For pros, that’s about it …..

CONS: Most importantly – it doesn’t clean as well as other robot vacuums. For $799, I expect it to clean twice as better (twice as expensive, clean twice as better – is that so much to ask?) I am forced to program this vacuum to do its clean sweep twice (one of I think three cleaning options). That set up is said to be used only for deep cleaning. I use it just to clean as other vacuums do in one run. I have one indoor/outdoor runner that this vacuum refuses to clean. It just can’t seem to sweep up any dirt or hair off of it. Odd …
    – It leaves “poopies” of rolled up dirt balls everywhere. I have to go around and pick them up. Now, I clean this vacuum every day so it is not becuase there is residual dirt left in the vacuum. And, since I have had other robots, I am fully aware of where the dirt likes to hide in the vacuum.
    – EVERY SINGLE TIME the vacuum starts, it says “empty the bin.” EVERY SINGLE TIME! Is the bin even half full? No. I think what happens is that, after every cleaning run, after the vacuum docks, it sounds like it is trying to empty the bin into the dirt-holding part of this vacuum – which I did not purchase because it costs $300 more!! So, the dirt gets blown all over the vacuum’s internal system. I have to manually clean the vacuum either after it cleans, or when the annoying voice complains, “empty the bin.” Bad design flaw. The bin has never once ever been filled. In use another brand’s hand-held cordless vacuum to clean this vacuum. What’s wrong with this picture?
    – The radar tower that is supposed to sense the vacuum from going down a step and stop the vacuum from moving beyond it doesn’t work perfectly. For $799 this should work 100% of the time. In the month that I have had the vacuum, it has slipped past this tower, getting stuck and stopping. So, now I must be present when this vacuum is running so that I can monitor it. Not so bad, other vacuums get stuck, but, again for $799 …

None of these problems renders the vacuum useless. It’s staying, and I will baby it. I call it my special needs vacuum. I just feel that, having four robot vacuums and three different brands gives me the knowledge base for writing a review to consumers who care about a clean house AND their wallet. The bottom line – it’s a robot vacuum! No robot vacuum is worth $799. No robot vacuum is perfect – they all come with quirks. So, get a newer model (they are getting better all the time), and don’t pay over $500. My best vacuum cost me $350 – brand new model, on sale. You still have to babysit all of them, but you will have more money in your pocket. Buyer beware – avoid paying $799 for a robot vacuum.

I had such high hopes for this roomba. I had the previous version of this roomba and loved it. I needed a better suction because of all the pet hair from our long haired kitty. This roomba continuously alerts and jams for the non being full when it’s not even half way full. It doesn’t integrate with Alexa in the way I had hoped. For ex: if I say “Alexa end cleaning” the roomba stops cleaning but doesn’t go back to the charging station which is ridiculous. I have to pick it up and put it on the loading dock. I’m having a bit of buyers remorse after spending all this money with high expectations.

Works well, can’t think of any way you could improve it. It learns your house, you can schedule cleanings. The only concern is spills or pet accidents. The Roomba will cover every inch of your house. In the event it comes across dog poop it will not stop or avoid it. It will keep moving forward smearing it everywhere and really clogging things up. Quite an event. You’ve been warned.
