It’s great! But I feel that way because I’m smart enough to know what to expect from it, April 26, 2006

Roomba Red does not clean a room nearly as fast as when you use a regular vacuum. ButI don’t care how long it takes because I put it in a room right before I leave the house and when I come back the floor in that room is clean. Then I charge it and clean the next room the next time I leave the house.

I got the optional wall hanger and fast charger from IRobot.com and I can recharge it in 3 hours and clean two rooms or more in a day.

It excells at picking up cat hair and dirt from both our hardwood floors and area rugs. It is also GREAT for cleaning under beds and some furniture such as our baby’s crib.

You do have to clean the rollers every few weeks or they get too wrapped up with fur, strands of string, etc. It tells you this right in the manual, so it shouldn’t shock anyone.

We kept our uber-powerful Hoover Windtunnel upright for times when we need to clean a room faster and/or need to use the hose attachement for corners, sofas, blinds, etc. Together, the Hoover and Roomba are a perfect team.

We bought ours from a brick and mortar store and got the extended warranty (for 20% more I think) that gives us an immediate replacment if there are any problems. We did have to take it in once when a sensor failed and we were given a brand new machine on the spot.

We love our Roomba! It is not a toy at all for us…it saves this dual career family lots of time and we keep our house cleaner than we would be able to otherwise.

This item is a great item and well worth the money. We have a family of four with little kids and 2 dogs. The Roomba cleans our floors daily and does a great job. I would recommend this to anyone. I fully expect to get between 1 and 2 years out of my Roomba. After mine dies, I will buy another one (worth the $150.00/$99.00(re-manufactured) every two years)

My advice would be to buy the Red and then buy the home base charger. The Discovery models offer a “MAX” Clean feature that I never use (it basically forces the unit to fully discharge the battery, getting a few more minutes of cleaning). Amazon has remanufactured units for $99.00 with a 90 day warranty. Buy it with AMEX and they will double the warranty. Good Luck!!!

Edit: IT DOES work on carpets, medium or low pile. If you own shag (70’s style) you may have a problem. My Roomba goes from hardwood to medium pile carpet (most carpet is medium) and back with no problems. Cover the front wheel with electrical tape to pro-long it on hardwoods.

    I love my Roomba!, July 26, 2005

After the initial charge, the Roomba cleaned 4 rooms of my house on one charge. When it was done, the dust bin was pretty full, but still had a bit of room. This was impressive to me b/c it got under the sofas, beds, and dresser which had not been swept under in a long while. It picked up all of the dust and dog hair from my wood floors. I’ve been using it for a week now and my floors stay so much cleaner for much longer than if I just swept them. After that initial cleaning, I now set it to do a room a day. It’s wonderful!
