We bought one of these machines directly from Sebo US and received it two days later in perfect condition.

All Sebo D4’s have the same power unit – the only differences between the various D4s are the color (red, white, or black) and the included attachments. This model costs less because it doesn’t include an electric power head for carpets – that accessory is available for extra cost if you decide later on that it’s needed. We use this machine exclusively on our first floor, which is hardwood and tile, with a few throw rugs.

I’ll make some comparisons to our $1200 Miele Blue Moon canister vacuum (which only had a 1 year warranty), since Miele offers comparably priced machines.

    Pros:

    – the 5-year warranty [all labor and all parts] is the best in the business. If you buy it directly from Sebo US, you can extend that to 8 years for a one time $99 charge. Miele warranties the casing and motor for 7 years, and 1 year for everything else, which means if the hose electrics fails (the most common failure with Miele’s), you’re out of luck.

    – the cord is 40′ long, giving the machine a 52′ cleaning radius – probably the best of any non-commercial canister vacuum on the market. For many houses, this means you could do an entire floor without moving the plug. Comparably priced Meile machines, for example, have a 33′ cleaning radius; that’s 19′ less, requiring an extension cord or moving the plug more often.

    – very strong suction. E.g., using the floor brush on large throw rugs on full suction will lift much of a rug’s end off the floor. You have to push away when vacuuming or lower the suction power. Our Meile has less suction.

    – 1.5 gallon HEPA filter bag, plus a pre-motor and a micro-filter for the exhaust. An 8-pack of bags is about $30, which is reasonable for HEPA. The bags/filers are simple to access and change. There’s no dust smell after vacuuming. The crevice tool, dusting brush, and upholstery nozzle are stored in the machine’s rear.

-“Air-belt” refers to the cloth covered bumper that encircles the machine’s mid-point. Exhaust air exits through the cloth (after being filtered), expanding it into a pillow-like bumper. When the machine bounces off our kitchen island, it makes no sound and leaves no marks. Much better than even rubber, which can leave a black mark.

    – rolls easily on its rubber wheels

    – Quality of everything is first-rate. Manufactured in Germany.

    – Engineering is first-rate, including the hose design. E.g., for years Meile canisters have suffered from an appalling design blunder where the hose joins the machine – every few years, electrical contacts at that point fail, requiring a new $160 hose.

    – will sit upright on its end which is useful when storing, if you’re on stairs, or you need to get the hose higher without holding the machine up.

    Cons:

    – This is a FULL sized canister vacuum weighing in at 17 pounds. For most people, even a big guy, it would be a struggle to carry a D4 while doing stairs or reaching high with the wand. Someone else could hold the machine up in these situations – or you could buy a SEBO 1495AM Vacuum Extension Hose, 9-Feet. You could also consider the much lighter (9 pounds) Sebo K3. The K3’s cord is only 25′ long, but it has very good suction and is the same high quality – a small woman should be able to carry it easily. If you’re only doing floors like us, the D4’s weight isn’t an issue, since it’s easy to pull along behind you.

    – Sebo sets the retail price of its vacuums, so every vendor, including Amazon, has the same price. At least there were no sales taxes or shipping charges.

    Summary:

If you’re OK with the weight (and price) of this vacuum, I don’t see how you could go wrong with a D4. It’s truly an outstanding product.

Pros —- Sturdy but light enough, POWERFUL suction, good basic accessories, made of good materials. Large EPA grade disposable bag. Easy and non messy to dispose, show when is time to change the bag. Hospital grade filters. Retractable electrical cord, super long, enough to do a house level even in a medium house without changing receptacles.

Cons —- Apart that it is a little pricy…I’m looking forward for more cons…
